18kt rose gold ring with a freshwater baroque pearl
Freshwater Pearls
Oyster: Hyriopsis Cumenigii
Cultivation: Cultured freshwater pearls are created using a different technique from that used to cultivate saltwater pearls. In fact, to initiate the production of freshwater pearls, a fragment of the epithelium from another oyster is inserted into the oyster's mantle, rather than a mother-of-pearl nucleus, as is done with other varieties of cultured pearls. Inside the grafted mantle, a nucleus-free pearl will form, meaning it has no nucleus and is composed entirely of layers of nacre. Unlike marine mollusks, freshwater mollusks can continue to produce pearls for two or three consecutive cycles after receiving the initial implant.
Characteristics: The main characteristic of freshwater pearls is their unlimited variety of shapes, the most common of which are irregular. The round shape, on the other hand, is much less frequent because, since there is no nucleus, it is more difficult to achieve perfectly spherical growth.
The size of freshwater pearls is on average larger than Akoya pearls and ranges from 2 to 13 mm, while as far as colors are concerned, they come in a variety ranging from white to purple, passing through shades of pink.
Cultivation areas: freshwater pearls are produced mainly in China, but they are also produced in Japan and the United States.
The product is shipped with a box and an official Diana warranty valid for 24 months.
