DESCRIPTION
In the rich history of rock music, few names have stood out as consistently as Queen. With a career spanning over five decades, the band is one of the most successful groups in the world. Throughout this period, Queen represented the power of musical creativity, and most of their songs topped the charts for weeks. They created a true musical universe, combining hard rock, glam rock, pop, funk, and opera, breaking down the barriers between musical genres. Inspired by the 1991 album Greatest Hits II, Montblanc honors one of Queen's most successful albums with the Great Characters Homage to Queen Special Edition. Adopting the striking color combination of the Greatest Hits II double LP, the edition comes in dark blue with gold-finish details. The four musicians who brought this legendary compilation album to life have gone down in history: Freddie Mercury, the charismatic frontman with a vocal range spanning several octaves and a rich, intense vibrato; Brian May, the virtuoso guitarist and the unmistakable sound of his electric guitar; John Deacon, the versatile and creative bassist; and Roger Taylor, the rhythmic heart of the band. As a testament to their musical virtuosity, which made the 1991 album one of the best-selling and most well-known in the world, their "tools of the trade" are subtly immortalized on the fine resin: a microphone and bass on the cap; a guitar and drums on the body. On their Greatest Hits II album, the band gathered a wide selection of its hits, ranging from rock anthems to the catchiest pop songs, including iconic tracks such as A Kind of Magic, classics like Radio Ga Ga and The Show Must Go On, the energetic I Want to Break Free, or the intense Under Pressure, the result of their collaboration with David Bowie. In addition to Freddie Mercury's extraordinary voice, the key element of the band's unique sound was Brian May's exceptional guitar. The writing instrument pays tribute to him and his virtuosity through the shape of the nib. Designed with the distinctive volume and tone control knobs of his famous electric guitar in mind, the cone features a delicate grooved pattern, a small red dot, and the engraving of the release date of the Greatest Hits II album. The crown worn by Mercury during the closing performance of God Save the Queen inspired the shape of the top of the Special Edition cap and is at the same time a metaphor for the band's majestic character and musical legacy. The gold-finish clip was designed to resemble a microphone stand, referring to one of the distinctive features of Freddie Mercury's live performances.
